week thirteen

March 26 - April 1, 2017

He was born an old soul. He's tender-hearted, gracious, and wise beyond his years. He loves pistachio ice cream, Kentucky basketball, and bands he only knows about because of his big brothers. He's got Spotify playlists and stacks of song lyrics he's copied down to analyze and understand. He's competitive, a practical joker, and a bird watcher. He's never been in a hurry a day in his life. 10.

week eleven

March 12 - 18, 2017

He's given us a gentle introduction to each new season of parenting. He's clever and witty; kind-hearted and eager to do good. He's a thinker, a reader, and a writer. He's a gentleman who isn't too proud to admit fault. He's an ideas guy with stories to tell. We're so grateful to be on the front row for the story being told through him. Sixteen.

week nine

February 26 - March 4, 2017

"There is much we can do to shape our home environments, to make home a haven of peace and acceptance each person who lives there. But creating a welcoming home also includes the choice to accept the unique design of our families and the limitations of each family member. We have to learn to lean into life as something beautiful even if it is not exactly what we expected. Trusting that God works all things together for the good despite the challenges we face is a gift of worship we give to God. Acceptance with humility must eventually come to each of us if we are to please God and not always fight against the limitations of our own family pattern."

week eight

February 19 - 25, 2017

"For he claims all, because He is love and must bless. He cannot bless us unless He has us. When we try to keep within us an area that is our own, we try to keep an area of death. Therefore, in love, He claims all. There's no bargaining with Him."

week six

February 5 - 11, 2017

"No man who values originality will ever be original. But try to tell the truth as you see it, try to do any bit of work as well as it can be done for the work's sake, and what men call originality will come unsought."                                              C.S. Lewis, The Weight of Glory

week five

January 29 - February 4, 2017

"It may be possible for each to think too much of his own potential glory hereafter; it is hardly possible for him to think too often or too deeply about that of his neighbor. The load, or weight, or burden of my neighbor's glory should be laid on my back, a load so heavy that only humility can carry it, and the backs of the proud will be broken. It is a serious thing to live in a society of possible gods and goddesses, to remember that the dullest and most uninteresting person you can talk to may one day be a creature which, if you saw it now you may be tempted to worship, or else a horror or a corruption such as you now meet, if at all, only in a nightmare. All day long we are, in some degree, helping each other to one or other of these destinations. It is in the light of these overwhelming possibilities, it is with the awe and the circumspection proper to them, that we should conduct all our dealings with one another, all freedoms, all loves, all play, all politics. There are no ordinary people. You have never talked to a mere mortal."                                                       C.S. Lewis, The Weight of Glory

week four

January 22 - 28, 2017

"Indeed, how we think of Him is of no importance except insofar as it is related to how He thinks of us. It is written that we shall "stand before" Him, shall appear, shall be inspected. The promise of glory is the promise, almost incredible and only possible by the work of Christ, that some of us, any of us who really chooses, shall actually survive that examination, shall find approval, shall please God. To please God... to be a real ingredient in the divine happiness... to be loved by God, not merely pitied, but delighted in as an artist delights in his work or a father in a son - it seems impossible, a weight or burden of glory which our hearts can hardly sustain. But so it is."                                                                  C.S. Lewis, The Weight of Glory
